Ryan Ruocco had been slated to call next week’s series in Toronto, but Sterling wants to be on-hand for Judge’s pursuit of history.
Sterling turned 84 years old on July 4.
This past June, Sterling opted to dramatically cut back on road games.
“It is just to recharge my batteries,” Sterling told The Post at the time. “I’ve been doing road games with teams for 52 years. I love this game, but I hate being on the road.”
Nonetheless, the idea of Judge chasing history was too tantalizing for him to pass up.
The 30-year-old Judge hit his 59th home run of the season on Sunday against the Brewers. Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961.
Baseball fans and media are split on whether they consider Maris’ home run total as the prevailing record. Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds have all hit more than 61 homers in a season — Bonds holds the record, with 73 in 2001 — but those three players were widely believed to have taken PEDs en route to their marks.
