OJ touches down upstairs?
We just lost OJ Simpson — a case I reported on daily.
Thus my note to St. Peter: At those pearly gates be sure to shove his bones through a metal detector.
His ending should’ve happened during daylight saving so he’d have had an extra hour to mourn a guy who got away with murder.
But . . . I guess . . . if somebody knocks off somebody else now . . . it’s just considered a misdemeanor.
With today’s law enforcement, seems the only real tragedy is hustling weed without a license.
Hundreds of years ago Britain’s fleet shipped its murderers and thousands of convicted convicts into exile.
Destination? Far-off Australia. Sydney.
Under lock and key, accompanied by guards and military officers, these men, women, political groups, prisoners all, close to 160,000, populated the country’s early days.
Such began Great Britain’s penal convict settlement.
If Napoleon got shipped to Elba and the Brits to Australia, is there no island, no patch of ground, no place to relocate our planet’s migrants — some of whom aren’t Class A, or peddle drugs, or are bad people, or bring disease — or those officials might’ve rejected back when they would have had to apply legitimately?
Isn’t there any plot anywhere? Can’t we even shrink DC?
Earth shakes — and stirs — up Iceland
After our earthquakes my friend Dorrit Moussaieff — husband Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson was Iceland’s president for 20 years — said how they lived through it.
“Quakes and molten lava spills once happened four times in a few months. Our country — just below the Arctic Circle — knows 20 hours of darkness in a day.”
It’s also known orange lava and rocks spewing smoke shooting to the sky.
“Listen, life is danger. It’s nature. So many lose lives fighting it. But America has its own survival instinct.”
Anything happen to you?
“No. Just my husband fell down and broke his shoulder.”
True blue
Big talent Jodie Foster has ignored the small screen her entire career. Then it’s yes to HBO’s “True Detective” series. The thing’s alive with dead bodies.
Jodie: “I became interested in a character who’s terrible. Emotionally unaware. This story says Native Americans believe that those gone live among us. You embrace dead people in your life.”
Yeah, OK. This deals with spiritual stuff and stiffs. Can leave you ice cold. Sit with a sweater.
All elephant ears
In Davos, where top leaders and CEOs gather annually, the big elephant in the room was actually an elephant.
The next extinct species. On the endangered list. Half its population — only 40,000 left. Africa’s lost over 130,000.
Besides ivory banned in 1989, the Maasai are losing the livelihood grazing land they’ve had for 10,000 years.
Jane Goodall and artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude — who once wrapped Central Park objects in fabric — endorse “Walking Thunder,” their son Cyril Christo’s doc on elephants which is set to stream soon.
Cyril: “Africa’s every 11 years drought is now constant. Climate change wrought havoc. Kicking Maasai off their land is no good way to save the planet.”
Republican conversation in Washington about an individual who might’ve stolen the last election. Democrat: “No, they did not. They paid spot cash for it.”
Only not in New York, kids — only in certain states.
